The Response
The video was included in the material provided to President Obama for review prior to attending the G8. Thanks for the great work.
The Campaign
- Received such positive response at the 2010 Food Security Investment Forum that it proceeded to the G8 Summit and was shown to world-wide dignitaries, including President Obama
- Shown nationally on the nation’s largest cable channel – Channel i
- Highlighted on IFPRI website to demonstrate ‘how progress can be made’ as a model for third world countries
- Inspired participation from the world community to further assist the country of Bangladesh
The Problem
Bangladesh has long been a poster child for third world poverty. We wish to change that perception with a film that can be shown at national forums to world leaders.Bangladesh has been an independent country for 30 years. IFRPI, in association with the country’s government, wanted to highlight the vast improvements the country has made over these three decades – and point to both agricultural and economic successes.
The Solution
Hand Crank Films in association with IFPRI flew team members Chris Koser and Joel Bergsma into Bangladesh for five days to interview farmers, government officials and policy makers. What they captured was a country filled with personality and ambition every bit as vibrant as the marketplaces. A country that once relied heavily on financial assistance is now for the first time on the verge of self-sufficiency, and an example of what good food policy in conjunction with government participation can accomplish.
